Exploring the Challenge
How do you craft a story for hospitality (Hotel/Motel) employees that not only educates but also connects with them emotionally, knowing they can make a difference in someone's life? While the topic holds more significant weight than the usual internal training course, we faced this challenge by asking ourselves, "Why should anyone leave room to care?". With that in mind, I began crafting a story that takes you through learning what it is, how it impacts someone, and what you can do to help, ensuring you feel understood and supported throughout.
The Design Approach
Given that the topic of Human Trafficking isn't a happy or light conversation, I approached the Room Next Door with a more optimistic visual approach. Keeping the overall design simple and light balanced the dark and sometimes depressing content that needed to be highlighted. This approach also allows the course materials to have extended shelf life, as it avoids overly stylized visuals that can quickly date themselves.

The End Results
After being in production for a few months, the program was successfully launched internally at G6 Hospitality (the parent company of Motel 6 / Studio 6), giving mandatory training to all employees and team members working on properties across the United States. Shortly after launching in Q1 of 2024, work began modifying the course to be released as a complete white-label version, free and open to anyone needing Anti-Human Trafficking training in the United States. The Room Next Door has been supported and endorsed by over 15 different local and national agencies and organizations, such as New Friends New Life, AATN, HTTC, PACT, and more.
